Monolithic Tables - A Return
The monolithic table – return of an original form
They stand there like grown forms – as if they were not made, but found.
As if the earth itself had paused for a moment and formed an object out of pressure, heat and time.
Monolithic tables are not ordinary furniture. They are phenomena worthy of a work of art.
Silent, heavy, uncompromising. And surprisingly contemporary in its presence.
Monolithic – what does that actually mean?
The term monolithic comes from the ancient Greek monólithos – monos (alone) and líthos (stone).
Originally, it referred to natural or man-made stone blocks consisting of a single piece – such as obelisks, dolmens or rock temples.
Today, we use the word in design when an object appears to consist of a single block of material. Clear in form, coherent in expression, without visible breaks or transitions.
The monolithic natural stone table captures this archaic power – and brings it into the present.
The technology behind it: Miter bonding
What looks as if it were cut from a single block of stone is in fact the result of the highest craftsmanship precision: miter bonding – a technique that requires not only skill but also respect for the material.
The edges of the natural stone slabs are cut at a precise 45-degree angle. This sounds simple, but it's a step that requires millimeter-precise work – because any deviation would be visible. The prepared slabs are then glued together so that they meet at right angles, visually merging into a flowing volume.
Particularly challenging is the alignment of the grain , the natural pattern of the stone. It must be guided so that it flows seemingly effortlessly across the corner. Veins, color transitions, textures – they all have to start exactly where the eye expects them. Only then can the perfect illusion of a solid block be created.
The adhesive itself is also a chapter in itself: It must not only be extremely durable and tension-balancing, but also precisely match the color of the respective stone. With light marble or translucent quartzite, even the slightest deviation can spoil the illusion.
The result? A table that looks as if it wasn't built, but rather discovered.
Reduction in its most technically complex form.
A monolith that is silent – but tells a lot.
Three forms, one attitude
At the MAGNA Atelier we manufacture monolithic tables in various dimensions.
But they are all united by one idea: the interplay of earth history, craftsmanship and timelessness.
New York – the little one with attitude
New York – a name that evokes rhythm, vertical lines, the calm between two movements.
The city is dense, focused, and full of contrasts. And this is precisely what our side table of the same name reflects: a miniature monolith – uncompromising in form, powerful in presence.
Crafted from natural stone with fine mitering, New York appears like a solid block—reduced to the essentials yet full of energy. Its surface speaks of layers of earth, its edges of craftsmanship.
It stands next to the bed, the sofa or the reading chair – not as an accessory, but as a calming influence.
A place for a glass, a book, a view. Small in size, but noticeable in the space.
New York is proof that monumentality does not depend on size, but on attitude.
A piece of stone. A clear statement. Urban, pure, and surprisingly intimate.
Forte dei Marmi – architectural elegance
Forte dei Marmi – a name that evokes the sea, the sun on tanned skin, the soft sheen of marble. Located on the Tuscan coast, this town was once a transshipment point for Carrara marble, which was shipped across the pier to the open sea. Today, Forte dei Marmi is synonymous with luxury, Mediterranean elegance, and spaces where architecture and nature blend harmoniously.
Our Forte dei Marmi console is a tribute to this place—and to what it stands for. Crafted from exquisite Calacatta Viola , a marble with dramatic violet and cream markings, it resembles an architectural fragment: a cuboid, clear in form, vibrant in its surface.
The console table unfolds its full effect indoors. It welcomes guests with a quiet presence in the entryway, serves as a sideboard for select objects in the living room, and, placed freely in the room, becomes a sculpture in itself. The mitered joint allows the stone grain to flow seamlessly over the edges, creating the impression of a solid block.
Forte dei Marmi is more than just a piece of furniture—it's a statement of timeless aesthetics and the fusion of craftsmanship and nature. It brings a touch of Tuscan lifestyle into the room: elegant, understated, and of lasting beauty.
